As requested by the SCIC Chair, Ms Meggan Engelke-Ros, four electronic discussion groups (e-groups) were created to assist the work of SCIC. A summary is presented in this background paper of the discussions across the four e-groups.

Este documento refiere las actividades de la Secretaría de apoyo a la labor del Comité Científico en 2020 y 2021. También aporta la información más reciente sobre la labor de publicación de un nuevo volumen de CCAMLR Science y recomienda que, en 2022, el nuevo Director de Ciencia trabaje junto con el consejo editorial de CCAMLR Science para revisar la política de publicaciones científicas de la CCRVMA.

The 40th meeting of the Scientific Committee on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources was opened today by its Chair, Dr Dirk Welsford (Australia).
Two proposals seeking support from the CEMP Special Fund were reviewed according to the assessment criteria. An additional proposal was referred to the panel from the General Capacity Building Fund panel. The management panel recommends that the Scientific Committee endorse the recommendations for funding totalling A$135 000 for 2021/22. In addition, the management panel made several recommendations to improve efficiency and to streamline management of the fund.
Abstract:
The Secretariat received fishery notifications for exploratory fisheries for toothfish and krill fisheries for 2021/22. No notifications were received for new fisheries.
