During the 2016/17 season seven inspections of foreign fishing vessels were carried out by Chile, and one sighting was recorded. This document summarises the activities carried out in Subarea 48.1. From the work carried out by the inspectors, various comments have arisen that may contribute to the enhancement of the CCAMLR System of Inspection.

This annual report from the Executive Secretary, for the 12-months since CCAMLR-XXXV, is accompanied by an Implementation Report for the third year of the Secretariat’s Strategic Plan (2015–2018) and a report on implementation of the Secretariat’s Salary and Staffing Strategy during 2017.
Consistent with the Commission’s decision in 2002, these documents provide, inter alia, a basis for the Commission to assess the performance of the Executive Secretary (CCAMLR-XXI, paragraph 3.13).

Abstract:
A summary of the work undertaken in relation to tasks identified at CCAMLR-XXXV for the attention of the Intersessional Correspondence Group – Sustainable Financing (ICG-SF) during 2016/17 is presented. During this period, the ICG-SF received information from the Secretariat relating to the following tasks requested by CCAMLR-XXXV:
issues associated with funding conveners to meetings of the Scientific Committee and working groups
considerations relating to the establishment of a Working Capital Fund
a review of the contributions formula arrangements in other multilateral fisheries bodies
further consideration of cost reduction and revenue generation options to support sustainable financing for the organisation
a preliminary review of the contributions formula.
The Commission is invited to provide further advice and recommendations in relation to these and any additional matters relating to the sustainable financing of CCAMLR.

This paper updates developments in relation to CCAMLR’s relations with organisations so far identified by the Commission for the development of a formal arrangement relating to cooperation. It includes a summary of the status of the establishment of formal relations with the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) and the South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO) as requested at CCAMLR-XXXV (paragraphs 10.22 to 10.24).
