In recognition of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Declaration of 5 June as the International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, CCAMLR joins the global fisheries community in drawing attention to the threats posed by IUU fishing activities.
Mitchell John comes to the Secretariat in the role of Technical Business Analyst and will be assisting the Web Project Officer contributing to the successful website redevelopment project. Mitchell holds a master's degree in business analytics from Deakin University and a bachelor's degree in engineering with a major in electronics and telecommunication.
Anar Umerkhanova has just started with the Secretariat joining the Russian translation team. Anar is an experienced translator holding a bachelor's degree in interpreting and translation (Russian/English). She has also recently completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainable Development while working in various fields with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
7 April 2022 will be the 40th anniversary of the CAMLR Convention coming into force. This is a significant milestone for CCAMLR, and some of the many successes for the organisation are presented in a series of blogs that were released prior to the 40th meeting of the Commission in 2021.

The Secretariat welcomes Olga Kozyrevitch to the role of Russian Translation Team Coordinator.
This week the Secretariat welcomes Dr Steve Parker to the role of Science Manager. Steve comes to us from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in New Zealand where he was the International Fisheries Program Leader and has enjoyed many years participating in CCAMLR meetings and working groups.
